Fire Across The Street

Since I'm sure most people reading this don't know, there was a large fire across the street yesterday. While it occurred at 5am, I didn't find out until I went out shopping that afternoon. While it was a large blaze, it only partially destroyed the complex across from us and did not come anywhere near my apartment. For those that care, I am entirely OK.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time. It started from the construction site of the "Element" apartment complex adjacent to "Art Foundry", which was already built. About 20 cars parked along the street between the two were destroyed. The count of damaged homes is now 27 (not including the in progress apartments at Element), but that number includes homes that are going to be salvageable. While the news is reporting that most had homeowners insurance, the word I get from our front office people (who hosted victims of the incident while it was happening) tell us that less than half had coverage. Regardless of having insurance, it's still an incredible loss for those people to have to endure.
While the complex was up to proper fire code and included barriers between units to prevent the spread of fire, the blaze was able to reach the roof. Unfortunately, that's the one place in our buildings that is more susceptible to fire. It also points out the eerie predicition in the title of my previous blog post.
If you're interested, there are a number of videos on the news at channel 11's video site. I suggest checking it out to get a better feel of what's happened.
